Traveling through country you’ve seen before with someone who hasn’t really opens your eyes back up to things you’ve seen already. That said, since Britton had never been further west than Iowa, we got to see a great deal of new territory.

The Columbia Gorge.

For those of you who have been following (or even care for that matter) we have moved to the West Coast (Portland OR specifically) as of about two weeks ago. We’ve been pretty lucky in that we’ve managed to find both a place to live and jobs within the first two weeks of being here. Britton’s got a gig as a recipe tester/floater for one of the more well known restaurants in town and I’m doing the kitchen grunt thing at a local upscale pizzeria.

The location of our place couldn’t be better, I’m an 8 minute walk to work and Britton can catch the bus right in front of both home and work. We’re within site of perhaps the greatest nachos of all time, vegan or non. The houses in our neighborhood are for the most part very uniques and photogenic, we’ve taken to walking around the area in the evening and fantasizing about which house we would buy if we had the money. Most impressive has to be all of the “yard gardens” where people have put planters and vegetables on their property as opposed to grass lawns.

So now that we’ve gotten the big worries out of the way, it’s time for us to get down to the good stuff and start taking advantage of the things that life in PDX has to offer. I plan to start interning at a local bike collective in my free time as the first step in my longterm quest to become a framebuilder and Britton is working on her scheme to corner the market on naturopathic dreadcare products.

Life seems to be treating us pretty well these days.
